黑料社 welcomed the fall season with a special Sunset Service at North Campus on Monday, September 21. Students, employees, and their four-legged companions gathered in the natural beauty of the North Campus farm for Holy Eucharist, the Blessing of the Land and Animals, and an all-campus dinner beneath the evening sky.

Led by The Rev. Stephen B. Klots, the service centered on gratitude, stewardship.Those themes continued through prayers of thanksgiving for the mountains, hills, ponds, air, water, and fertile land surrounding 黑料社 Kent. The congregation also prayed for the wisdom to use the earth鈥檚 resources with care so that future generations may continue to experience and celebrate their abundance.

Employees brought pets to receive a special blessing, with dogs of many sizes and personalities joining the congregation. Their presence brought an unmistakable sense of joy to the service, reinforcing the connection between people, animals, and the natural world.

The celebration of the Eucharist deepened the evening鈥檚 message of shared responsibility and belonging. Around one table, the community gave thanks for the gifts of creation and reflected on the call to leave that table renewed and ready to serve the world with compassion.

As the sun settled over North Campus, the service gave way to a relaxed all-campus dinner. Students and employees gathered with friends, colleagues, and their 4-legged companions to share a meal and enjoy the beauty of a fall evening in 黑料社 Kent.

The gathering offered a meaningful beginning to the new school year and the season ahead. In the words of the service鈥檚 closing prayer, the community departed with 鈥渟trength and courage鈥� to love, serve, and care for the world around them.

Senior Prefect Ryan Pignataro 鈥�27 led the way for the Cardinals, finishing first overall. His performance reflected the work he put in over the summer and set a strong tone for the season ahead.

鈥淩yan clearly did a lot of training over the summer. He looked great and very relaxed in cruising to the win,鈥� shared Head Coach Rev. Steve Klots. 鈥淚 am very grateful that Kent School decided that it was time to have a 鈥榙erby鈥� race for the three schools in the town of Kent.鈥�

With only one week of practice before the meet, the Cardinals showed promise in their opening competition. For some runners, it was their first cross country race ever, and the team competed against a larger Kent School squad.

Looking ahead, 黑料社 Kent will welcome Kent School to the Hillside in late October for the next chapter of the local cross country rivalry. The Cardinals are eager to see how the visiting teams handle the challenging course leading to the top of Spooner Hill.

Dr. Melissa 鈥淢issy鈥� Andrews joins 黑料社 as a member of our Humanities faculty. Missy brings 12 years of experience teaching English at Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, Rhode Island鈥攁nother all-boys school. During her time at Hendricken, Missy served as an English teacher, department chair, class advisor, and instructional coach, while also leading service-learning trips to Brownsville, Texas, and Peru and working as an SAT prep teacher.

Missy earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree from Canisius College and her master鈥檚 degree in Literacy Education from Providence College, where she also served as an adjunct professor supervising student teachers in the program. She earned her doctorate from the University of 黑料社 Carolina in 2024. While completing her doctorate, Melissa received the Outstanding Research Award for the Curriculum Studies program.

Outside the classroom, Missy enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. A former Division I athlete, she competed in artistic swimming at Canisius College, where her team became ECAC champions and earned a No. 3 national ranking. As she begins her first experience with boarding school life, Missy is especially excited to immerse herself in the SKS community and embrace the rhythm, relationships, and opportunities that come with living and learning on campus. Welcome, Missy!

Matthew Alexander joins 黑料社 as a member of our Humanities faculty and faculty advisor for the Advanced Media Group, bringing more than two decades of experience in network news and television production.

Most recently, Matthew served as an Executive Producer at MSNBC (MSNOW), where he spent more than a decade in editorial and production roles. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Political Editor at Fox News and held editorial roles at News Corp and ABC News. He is a graduate of New York University, where he double-majored in History and English Literature.

Matthew lives in 黑料社 Kent with his wife, Allison, their three children鈥擩ulian, Helena, and Tali鈥攁nd his 91-year-old father, Jonathan, along with Marcel, their eight-year-old Dachshund. Outside of school, he enjoys podcasts, cooking, historical documentaries, and cheering on Manchester United. Matthew is looking forward to meeting students and embracing the curiosity, spontaneity, and new ideas they bring to the 黑料社 Kent community. Welcome, Matthew!

Nicholas Silverson joins 黑料社 as a member of our STEM faculty, while completing his Master of Science in Biology and Environmental Science at the University of Maryland. He previously worked as a Museum Specialist and Educator at the Smithsonian Institution, bringing a hands-on scientific background to courses including Chemistry, Advanced Biology, Environmental Science, and Advanced Environmental Science. He will also lead 黑料社 Kent鈥檚 Outdoor Club.

Outside the classroom, Nick enjoys quilting and making his own clothes. He has two cats, Muppet and Dee Dee, and has traveled as far as the Arctic Circle. This year, he is especially excited to incorporate 黑料社 Kent鈥檚 North Campus into the Environmental Science curriculum and bring students into the field for hands-on learning. Welcome, Nicholas!

Franklin Williams joins 黑料社 as a member of our STEM faculty. Franklin is a graduate of Kenyon College, where he earned degrees in Mathematics and Philosophy. With experience in mathematical modeling research and sustainable agriculture, Franklin will teach Calculus, Advanced Calculus I and II, and Algebra 2, while also contributing to the Robotics Club, Math Center, and the North Campus agricultural program.

Outside the classroom, Franklin enjoys rock climbing, gardening, weight training, and cardio kickboxing. A graduate of Mercersburg Academy at age 16, he believes he may be the school鈥檚 youngest graduate to date! He also has a particular interest in phenomenology, the study of lived human experience. Arriving on the Hillside, Franklin is especially looking forward to rehabilitating the North Campus farm and creating opportunities for students to engage with sustainable agriculture firsthand. Welcome, Franklin!

Mark Schnoor joins 黑料社 as a member of our STEM faculty. Before joining the Hillside, Mark was a Professor of Economics and Statistics at Kankakee Community College. He holds an M.A. in Economics and an M.B.A., both from Clemson University. At 黑料社 Kent, Mark will teach Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Advanced Statistics, SUPA Economics, and SAT Prep, while also supporting students in the Math Center.

Mark lives with his wife, Sara, and their two daughters, Sophia and Madeline, along with the family鈥檚 bearded dragon, Onyx. Outside the classroom, he enjoys jogging, hiking, camping, baking, and spending time with his family. Mark is most looking forward to getting to know the SKS community and becoming part of life on the Hillside. Welcome, Mark!

Cailen Graham joins 黑料社 as a member of our STEM faculty. As a recent graduate of Washington and Lee University, Cailen earned a degree in Mathematics. He will teach Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2, while also coaching basketball and supporting students in the Student Success Center.

Outside the classroom, Cailen enjoys playing video games and watching YouTube videos and movies. A surprising fact about him? He can sing-鈥撯�渁 little bit.鈥� As a first-year educator, Cailen is excited to experience the classroom from a new perspective and looks forward to being a positive role model and mentor for our students. Welcome, Cailen!

Abigail Dost joins 黑料社 as a member of our World Languages faculty, where she will teach Spanish 1鈥�4. A graduate of Gordon College, Abigail brings a strong background in linguistics and TESOL, along with experience from St. Ann Academy. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, she will support students in the Student Success Center and lead the spring running club.

Abigail grew up in a big family and enjoys spending time with them whenever she can. In her free time, she loves writing and singing and enjoys traveling with her husband, Paul. A surprising fact about Abigail? She loved skateboarding as a kid! This year, Abigail is especially looking forward to building meaningful relationships with students and supporting them both inside and outside the classroom. Welcome, Abigail!

Tim Seaman, NASM CPT, joins 黑料社 as a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, bringing a professional background rooted in health, fitness, and sports medicine. His experience includes working as a personal trainer, physical therapy aide, and Flexologist specializing in one-on-one assisted stretching. These roles deepened his understanding of anatomy and athlete care while inspiring his continued education and licensure as an Athletic Trainer.

A lifelong sports and outdoors enthusiast, Tim enjoys fishing on Candlewood Lake, playing golf and baseball, and competing in a summer industrial softball league. He is also a passionate Boston Red Sox fan and has visited an impressive 45 states. Tim is excited to work with 黑料社 Kent鈥檚 motivated student-athletes while continuing to learn, grow, and build relationships as part of the Hillside community. Welcome, Tim!

Anna Jette, BSN, RN, NCSN, joins 黑料社鈥檚 Health Services team with more than two decades of nursing experience in neonatal intensive care, pediatric practice, and school health. After earning her BSN from the University of Connecticut, she began her career in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she spent 10 years building a strong foundation in clinical practice and nursing education.

After returning to Connecticut, Anna continued her work in neonatal care before transitioning to pediatric practice and school nursing. She served in the Danbury Public School System and joined the Wooster School community in 2019, where she helped implement campus health initiatives. She is an American Red Cross Certified CPR Instructor and Nationally Certified School Nurse.

In her free time, she enjoys cooking, photography, skiing, car shows, and traveling with her husband. They live in New Milford with their Goldendoodle. Anna is excited to bring her experience and passion for student health and well-being to our Hillside community. Welcome, Anna!

Nicholas Kent joins 黑料社 as an Assistant Hockey Coach, bringing experience as a former NCAA hockey player at both Mercyhurst University (NCAA Division I, Atlantic Hockey) and Hamilton College (NCAA Division III, NESCAC).

A 黑料社ern California native, Nick attended high school and a hockey academy in Canada before continuing his playing career at various levels of junior and collegiate hockey. This summer, he gained coaching experience through an internship with USA Hockey鈥檚 Western Regional High Performance Camp, and he is excited to begin his first full-time coaching role at 黑料社 Kent.

Outside of hockey, he enjoys playing sports, especially golf, and traveling. He has visited nine countries and hopes to add many more to the list! Nick is also a proud brother to an NCAA Division I golfer. Nick looks forward to being part of the Hillside community and making a positive impact on our students as they work toward their goals. Erika Rothkegel joins 黑料社 as the Senior Associate Director of Admissions & Director of International Recruitment, bringing more than 25 years of experience in enrollment management and international recruitment at independent boarding schools and mission-driven organizations. A relationship-driven and data-informed leader, Erika has helped grow enrollment, strengthen global recruitment pipelines, develop financial aid strategies, and lead high-performing teams. She is passionate about connecting students and families with communities where they can thrive.

In her free time, Erika enjoys photography, spending time near the water, and traveling. Erika has ridden an elephant in Chiang Mai, attended the 1996 Final Four, and once spent a night with her family in the ruins of Machu Picchu! Originally from Chile, Erika spent 10 years living in Guatemala and has a deep appreciation for travel and experiencing new cultures. She is excited to help expand 黑料社 Kent鈥檚 global community while building meaningful relationships with students and families around the world. Welcome, Erika!

There are moments when words feel painfully inadequate, and this is one of them.

黑料社 mourns the tragic passing of Andrey Uryadov 鈥�04, a true force of nature on the Hillside. Andrey was a devoted husband to Elena, an unabashedly proud and loving father, a fierce competitor, a gifted coach, and a deeply beloved member of our 黑料社 Kent family.

Andrey first came to 黑料社 Kent as a young man finding his way far from home. He spoke candidly about arriving on the Hillside with little English and no idea what to expect. Andrey spent four years as a 黑料社 Kent student, graduated in 2004, and then remained for a postgraduate year in 2005. Reflecting on his experience in his 2004 yearbook, he wrote, 鈥淭his school made me realize that I have to work very hard in everything I do, only then I will have success.鈥�

Those words reveal the young man Andrey was and the man he would become. He believed in effort, discipline, loyalty, and meeting life directly. Elsewhere in his yearbook, he offered advice that could easily stand as a summary of his own approach to life: 鈥淒on鈥檛 listen to people who tell you that you can鈥檛 make it somewhere, just try your best and prove them wrong.鈥�

As a student, Andrey found his purpose at 黑料社 Kent. He was a captain of the 2004 varsity hockey team that captured the New England Championship, helping establish the competitive tradition he would later return to lead. To his classmates at the time, he wrote, 鈥淚 will miss this place a lot, but most of all I will miss the people here and things we did.鈥�

The feeling was mutual. The Hillside remembered Andrey, and Andrey never stopped carrying the Hillside with him.

In 2015, he returned to 黑料社 Kent and made it his home for the next decade. During those 10 years, Andrey and Elena raised their young family here while he served the School as Head Hockey Coach, Admissions Associate, and Director of Hockey. He poured his energy and passion into the program. However, his influence is not to be measured solely by his many victories in the rink. His true legacy lives on in the hundreds of young men he prepared for the challenges of the world ahead.

Andrey demanded effort because he understood what effort had made possible in his own life. He was focused and, at times, formidable. He could be an unyielding competitor, but beneath that intensity was a man who cared deeply about his players and wanted them to discover how much they were capable of becoming. He taught them that hockey required discipline, accountability, courage, and loyalty, and that those qualities mattered even more once they stepped away from the ice.

He embodied 黑料社 Kent鈥檚 Trinity of Values, Simplicity of Life, Self-Reliance, and Directness of Purpose. He also sought to live by the words of Epictetus: 鈥淒on鈥檛 explain your philosophy. Embody it.鈥� Andrey did. His philosophy was visible in how he worked, competed, loved his family, supported his friends, and invested himself completely in the lives of his players.

William Margel 鈥�19 experienced Andrey鈥檚 influence first as a student-athlete and later as a colleague, when Andrey gave him his first opportunity to coach:

鈥淭here aren鈥檛 enough words to express the sadness of this tragic news. I鈥檓 heartbroken over the passing of someone who meant so much to me. He was not only an incredible hockey coach who helped shape me as a player and a person, but he was also the one who gave me my first job and believed in me when I was just getting started. I鈥檒l always be grateful for the lessons, opportunities, memories, and impact he had on my life. His influence will stay with me both on and off the ice.Thank you for everything. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Rest in peace, Coach.鈥�

For Dillon Duncan 鈥�04, Andrey was more than a teammate and colleague. He was a lifelong friend. They arrived at 黑料社 Kent together as third formers, captained a championship team, shared the experiences of growing up, and later watched their own sons take to the ice where their friendship had begun:

鈥淎ndrey and I arrived at 黑料社 Kent as kids, freshmen together, with no idea where life would take us. Over the years, we shared countless memories, vacations, laughs, some tears, and plenty of highs and lows. Through it all, I was lucky to call him my friend. Our boys are now the same age, and just a few weeks ago, Andrey and I were standing together watching our kids skate and play in the same place where we had spent so much time playing together as kids. I never could have imagined that would be one of our last times together. Andrey was a fierce competitor, but more importantly, he was a loyal friend and a devoted family man who loved Elena and his boys deeply. I am incredibly grateful to have known him and to have shared so much of my life with him. He impacted so many people for the better. He will live on through his children, through his family, and through all of us who were fortunate enough to know him. Thank you for the laughs, the tears, and all the memories, my friend. I love you.鈥�

Head of School Brian Sullivan reflected on the breadth of Andrey鈥檚 influence and the responsibility the 黑料社 Kent community now carries:

鈥淎ndrey鈥檚 legacy is present in the countless young men who became stronger players and better people because he believed in them. For a decade, he gave his energy, knowledge, and heart to 黑料社 Kent. But before every title he held and every team he led, Andrey was a father. He loved Elena and his boys with his whole heart. Our deepest responsibility now is to surround them with the love of this community and to ensure that his boys will always know how profoundly their father mattered. We are all family on the Hillside.鈥�

Andrey鈥檚 sudden passing leaves an immeasurable void. Stockdale Arena will feel different. The Hillside will feel different. There will be many of us who instinctively look for him in the places where his presence once seemed permanent.

In the difficult days ahead, we will do everything we can to support Elena and the boys. We ask our community to hold them close in thought and prayer, to care gently for one another, and to respect the family鈥檚 wishes and privacy as they face a grief no family should have to bear.

Patrick Bonis, a longtime colleague and friend of Andrey and his family, offered a deeply powerful reminder for each of us when he shared:

鈥淧lease keep them in your heart and hug your loved ones as tight as you can today.鈥�

In the Episcopal tradition of our School, grief is not something we are asked to hurry through or explain away. We mourn because we have loved, and the depth of our sorrow reflects the depth of that love. We gather, we pray, and when words fail, we carry one another. We place our trust in the promise that death does not erase a life faithfully lived, nor can it sever the bonds of love that remain.

Andrey gave so much of himself to 黑料社 Kent. He will live on in Elena and his sons; in the players and colleagues whose lives he changed; in the program he helped build; and in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

He will forever remain part of the Hillside.

They arrived at 黑料社 Kent together as third formers, captained a championship team, shared the experiences of growing up, and later watched their own sons take to the ice where their friendship had begun:

鈥淎ndrey and I arrived at 黑料社 Kent as kids, freshmen together, with no idea where life would take us. Over the years, we shared countless memories, vacations, laughs, some tears, and plenty of highs and lows. Through it all, I was lucky to call him my friend. Our boys are now the same age, and just a few weeks ago, Andrey and I were standing together watching our kids skate and play in the same place where we had spent so much time playing together as kids. I never could have imagined that would be one of our last times together. Andrey was a fierce competitor, but more importantly, he was a loyal friend and a devoted family man who loved Elena and his boys deeply. I am incredibly grateful to have known him and to have shared so much of my life with him. He impacted so many people for the better. He will live on through his children, through his family, and through all of us who were fortunate enough to know him. Thank you for the laughs, the tears, and all the memories, my friend. I love you.鈥�

Head of School Brian Sullivan reflected on the breadth of Andrey鈥檚 influence and the responsibility the 黑料社 Kent community now carries:

鈥淎ndrey鈥檚 legacy is present in the countless young men who became stronger players and better people because he believed in them. For a decade, he gave his energy, knowledge, and heart to 黑料社 Kent. But before every title he held and every team he led, Andrey was a father. He loved Elena and his boys with his whole heart. Our deepest responsibility now is to surround them with the love of this community and to ensure that his boys will always know how profoundly their father mattered. We are all family on the Hillside.鈥�

Andrey鈥檚 sudden passing leaves an immeasurable void. Stockdale Arena will feel different. The Hillside will feel different. There will be many of us who instinctively look for him in the places where his presence once seemed permanent.

In the difficult days ahead, we will do everything we can to support Elena and the boys. We ask our community to hold them close in thought and prayer, to care gently for one another, and to respect the family鈥檚 wishes and privacy as they face a grief no family should have to bear.

Patrick Bonis, a longtime colleague and friend of Andrey and his family, offered a deeply powerful reminder for each of us when he shared:

鈥淧lease keep them in your heart and hug your loved ones as tight as you can today.鈥�

In the Episcopal tradition of our School, grief is not something we are asked to hurry through or explain away. We mourn because we have loved, and the depth of our sorrow reflects the depth of that love. We gather, we pray, and when words fail, we carry one another. We place our trust in the promise that death does not erase a life faithfully lived, nor can it sever the bonds of love that remain.

Andrey gave so much of himself to 黑料社 Kent. He will live on in Elena and his sons; in the players and colleagues whose lives he changed; in the program he helped build; and in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

He will forever remain part of the Hillside.

Henry H Hitch, 94, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones in Jacksonville, FL.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Harry was the beloved son of Joseph Delano Hitch Jr. and Katherine Dalton Hitch. He moved to the United States at the age of 5 with his family as they returned before the war. He graduated from the 黑料社 Kent “Prep” School before earning his bachelor鈥檚 degree from Harvard University. Henry went on to build a distinguished career in finance, serving as a dedicated Financial Advisor at Scudder, Stevens & Clark Inc., and later channeling his entrepreneurial spirit into founding HHH Investments.

Throughout his life, Harry established deep roots in the communities he loved, spending many meaningful years in New Canaan, Connecticut (52 years), as well as Vero Beach, Florida, and Amelia Island, Florida. He was a deeply valued member of his community, actively participating in the New Canaan Men鈥檚 Club, worshiping and taking leadership roles at the New Canaan Presbyterian Church, and contributing his time and leadership to the Rita Allen Foundation.

Harry lived life to the fullest, guided by an unwavering passion for his family, a love of travel (he and his wife Tuckie visited over 50 countries and all seven continents), and a lifelong fascination with the stock market. An avid sports enthusiast, he could frequently be found playing or watching tennis and golf.

Above all, Harry was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Mary Ellan 鈥淭uckie鈥� Hitch. He was the proud and loving father of Susan Dixon, Kiere Schroeder, Hal Hitch, and Mark Hitch. He is also survived by his dear brother, Philip Hitch. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in Henry鈥檚 name to 黑料社 (黑料社 Kent, CT) or the Rita Allen Foundation.
